Callum Reid

Opened the shop in 2012 above a record shop with two chairs and a borrowed mirror. Nineteen years cutting, thirteen of them here, and still on the floor five days a week because he says an owner who stops cutting stops understanding the shop.

His fades are done entirely by hand — he owns exactly two guards and uses neither of them for the blend.

Straight Razor · Shaves

Licensed on the straight razor since 2011 and the reason the hot towel shave is on our list at all. Learned in his father's shop in Accra, then eight years in London before Manchester.

He is unhurried to the point of being maddening if you are in a rush, which is precisely why you should not book a shave when you are in a rush.

Fifteen years, most of them in salons rather than barbershops, which shows in how he handles length. If you want something that is not clipper-led, he is the chair to take.

Also the person who will talk you out of the photograph you brought, kindly, and then cut you something better.

Rebuilt how this entire shop cuts textured hair when he joined in 2022, and now runs a quarterly session training the rest of the floor. Cuts dry, shapes to the pattern, and never puts a comb through a coil.

He is our longest wait and entirely worth it.

Twenty-two years, the first fourteen in a shop in Turin that had been open since 1931. Does the cleanest side part in the building and handles most of our grey blending.

Talks constantly, and will stop the moment you say you would rather not.

Eleven years and the calmest person in the shop, which is why almost every child who comes in ends up in his chair. Fast without ever looking fast.

Runs the Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon children's slots, and has never once made a nervous eight-year-old cry.

We hire roughly once every two years.

Salaried, not chair rental. No commission on product. A rota that never runs past seven and a shop that closes on Mondays so that everybody actually gets a weekday off.

The requirement is ten years on the floor somewhere, a trade test with Callum, and a willingness to cut every hair type that walks through the door rather than the three you are comfortable with.

If we are hiring, it will be on the board by the door before it is anywhere else.
